UKPIA comment on Road to Zero Strategy

9th July 2018

Today, the UK Government has published the Road to Zero Strategy outlining its proposed approach to reduce emissions from UK road transport. The UK Petroleum Industry Association will study the strategy and its contents in detail and continue to engage with Government on the issues raised. Today, there are 37.5 million vehicles licensed for use on roads in Great Britain and petrol and diesel-powered vehicles account for around 99% of the UK’s passenger car fleet.

Stephen Marcos Jones commented: “The downstream oil industry supports constructive policies to address road transport emissions. All measures would need to be carefully considered, for example each option should be evaluated on a life cycle GHG basis, and practical impacts on consumers, industry, infrastructure, vehicle manufacture and alternative power source technology thoroughly researched and consulted upon. We look forward to continue liaising with government on the issues raised in today’s report”
