Increase in Fuel Duty Rates from 1 April 2009
From 1 April 2009, the duty rates on petrol and diesel have increased by 1.84 pence per litre from 52.35ppl to 54.19ppl, as announced at the 2007 and 2008 Budgets and confirmed at the 2008 Pre-Budget Report. VAT at 15% is also charged on the pump price.
On and after 1 December 2008, and on and after 1 April 2009, effective rates of duty for non-road fuels will be increased by the same percentage as main road fuels.
The current duty differential of 20p per litre for road biofuels will cease from 2010 and thereafter be charged at the same duty rate as the main road fuels.
